Not bad overall. The uncooked rice was under done after cooking on high for 5 hours. Either needs more time or use cooked rice. Also needs more spice. Otherwise, the recipe was easy.
I used brown rice & this was very tasty. I used shredded mozzarrella, which came out fine. I think the key is to buy and use Hot Italian turkey sausage INSTEAD of sweet sausage.
This was really, really good! I used hot Italian turkey sausage and used half brown and half white rice. Didn't have enough fresh regular basil, so I used some fresh Thai basil. My slow cooker doesn't have HIGH/LOW settings; I think they are figured into the time settings (4, 6, 8). I cooked these for six hours. Very tasty!
I made this tonight for Dinner & I did do 3 things different....I use ground chuck & a small can of tomato sauce & some Italian season & I also doubled it. I had my Mother over for dinner & everyone loved it!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!!
I almost didn't make this recipe based on some of the reviews. I'm sure glad I did, it was delicious and easy! I used Italian turkey sausage, as the recipe said, and didn't find it bland at all. Also I cooked it for about 8 hours on low because I had to make it in the morning before work in order to have sufficient cooking time, so undercooked rice was not an issue for mine. I am making it again tonight.
I think they should rework these directions. For one thing, I've never known rice to cook any time recipe calls for uncooked?? I always precook or use leftover rice (within 1 or 2 days only) because I don't like crunchy rice? Like one reviewer says, we've got to up the spices on turkey, it has almost no, really no flavor on it's own, especially ground turkey. Think of it as a blank canvas and go to town painting it with your favorite spices. Using pre cooked rice makes this dish much, MUCH better! I also added Italian Seasonings: Basil, Oregano, Garlic Powder (never salt*), plus I sprinkled a little BBQ spice on the turkey and it came out great!
Great for using left-over turkey or beef and rice.
After reading the reviews about this recipe being bland, I added a whole shallot and poblano pepper, as well as some dried oregano and parsley. The flavor was good, but the rice was crunchy. There wasn't enough water in the pepper to cook the rice.
those who find this bland might need this reminder. double or triple your seasonings when using ground turkey or chicken as compared to ground beef. i learned this by experimenting when i began using ground turkey years ago.
My husband has been wanting me to make stuffed peppers for a long time... I came across this and decided to try it. He seemed to enjoy them, but I thought they were super bland. I let them cook for 6 hours and the rice wasn't cooked. Had to let it cook an extra hour. I don't think I would make this again.
This was very tasteless. The rice in the peppers was good, but rice usually is. We were very disappointed and threw out half of the recipe. I wondered about the fresh basil as I've always used fresh herbs in the very last part of cooking as they loose their taste if cooked too long. I wouldn't bother to make it again.
I added 1 tsp cajun seasoning and 1/2 tsp minced garlic to this recipe. It was fantastic. But the recipe as is just didn't have enough flavor for my family.
