TJ’s freezer aisle never looked so good.

From Stroopwafel Ice Cream Sandwiches to frozen Gyoza Potstickers, Trader Joe’s is known for bringing international fare to its (teeny tiny) aisles and, somehow, doing the dishes justice.

The grocery store chain has done it again—this time, with its new frozen kunefe.

Kunefe (or kanafeh) is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert made with super thin, noodle-like pastry which is soaked in sweet, sugar-based syrup. The pastry is then layered with cheese and garnished with pistachios.

I know what you’re thinking: “How could Trader Joe’s sell a pre-packaged pastry soaked in syrup? Wouldn’t that taste soggy and artificially Eggo-esque?”

I’m glad you asked. The package comes with a separate packet of syrup that you use to soak the pastry once it’s baked. Then you can garnish it with pistachios, which are also packaged separately.

Trader Joe’s stuck to a pretty basic kunefe recipe, according to a FoodBeast writer who tried the dessert: “The outer crusts are made of kataifi, while the interior is a blend of two cheeses: mozzarella and myzithra, a ricotta-like cheese made from sheep or goat milk,” the report states.

The frozen dessert costs $3.99 and is on shelves now.
