Ms. March, butter is necessary in the pretzel crust to make it hold together. The recipe lists 1/2 c. sugar, divided. Half of this goes in the crust, half in the cream cheese mixture. But in my hurry, I put 1/2 cup in the pretzel crust, then had to guess on the amount of butter.
It is not like myrecipes.com to leave an incomplete recipe! Shame on you!

There is NO butter listed in the ingredients. How much butter should be used in the crust. Cream cheese is for the middle layer, is it not?

Butter isn't necessary as the cream cheese yields the same results.
There’s no butter in the ingredient list!🤷♀️
