Agreed!
Probably one of the best Pork Chop recipes I've come across to date.
This is a great pork chop recipe. My husband and two adult sons raved over this. It was easy to make and for us the seasoning was perfect. I served it with mashed potatoes and sucotash. I will be making this again.
add black fresh grind pepper
The flavors were good (I didn't need to season the gravy any more than the recipe called for), but the pork chops turned out tough. I think that searing them and then finishing them in the oven would work much better. I may try this again at some point - could be just a tough batch of pork chops.
I have made this recipe for many years, but it's been awhile since I have. We purchased a hog, and the chops are pretty thick, so I think I will have to put in the oven after frying to make sure they are not pink. One thing I have not used, is butter instead of oil, so that's the only difference in what I have done for so long. The gravy is always great with lots of pepper and salt to taste.
So simple to prepare and the chops are juicy and tender. Quick too!
This was good. The gravy was a little to bland.I will be try this again and add more seasoing to the gravy.
Luv, luv, luv it!!! Best country pork chops and gravy recipe ever. Not greasy at all. I don't usually care for country gravy, but this recipe is outstanding. I've already made this twice since discovering it recently.
This was terrific. My pork could have been cooked a minute or two less, but that doesn't detract from the recipe. In fact, the gravy is easy, generous and delicious and can help a poor chop that may be a little dry!
What a great recipe! Have made it time and time again, always with great results. I tend to sear the meat and then put it in the oven at 350 degrees to finish cooking while I make the gravy and the potatoes. We usually double the recipe and triple the sauce, often adding extra thyme and marjoram. We serve with yukon gold mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. A great meal for a cold winter day. just the kind of old fashioned fare I crave during those cold winter months. Just read enfrijoladas's review from 4/10/13. Will have to try her additions next time!
This is a great, easy-to-use recipe! I like my pork chops smothered, so before I start the meat, I saute an onion and mushrooms in a non-stick pan until the onions are caramelized. I use one large onion, vertically sliced, and an 8-ounce tub of sliced mushrooms from the market. The onion pan serves to keep the chops warm while you make the gravy, then I combine everything into one pan at the end. It's really tasty!
Great recipe! I have made this recipe several times for my picky little ones and husband who WONT EAT pork ( figured too bad for him). The boys ate it all and quickly and hubbie went back for seconds.. hmmm. Easy to make, very tender meat and gobbled up by all! Great recipe!!!
So delicious and hardly light-tasting at all. This will be a regular dish for our household. The flavors were great!
Great easy recipe. I didn't have any sage, but it was still very flavorful! Excellent dinner choice for any night of the week!
My boyfriend and I really liked this easy recipe. The flavor was perfect to the taste.
This dish was so easy, so tastey and very "comfort" feeling. We had friends over and everyone loved it!
My family loves this recipe; I've made it about 3 times now. It's extremely easy to throw together. While we generally cook pretty healthy, my husband likes this because it feels like an indulgent, traditionally Southern-type dish. We'll keep this one in our permanent file!
This is the worst recipe I have ever tried. Very disappointed.
My family is extremely picky and all in different ways and we ALL ate this happily. I realized I had no thyme and used slightly less sage because of some of the other reviews. It was really good and very easy.
My husband doesn't like pork chops usually, but I decided to try this one out because they sounded so much like my mom's recipe tweaked just a little even he liked them. I'm not a huge sage or thyme fan, so I went a little light on both those spices, which made the gravy great! I would definitely make this simple, tasty recipe again!
This has become one of our favorite recipes in my household. My husband loves to put the gravy on the chops, sweet peas and mashed potatoes that we make with it. Excellent recipe!
Pork is one of those meats that can easily dry out so since the kids are so picky, I bought a Rotisserie Chicken just in case this one didn't work out. The chicken is now for dinner tomorrow night because this recipe is OUTSTANDING! Easy, fast, juicy, and kid friendly! My only substitution was to throw in 4 fresh sage leaves on the pork while cooking instead of adding rubbed sage - my dry herb looked a little "old". I need to go back and lick the plate clean now!
This has become a regular meal in the dinner rotation. My husband and I love it...very light, flavorful, goes great with variety of veggies and whole grains.
I made this for dinner last night and it was DELICIOUS!!!! I meant to add mushrooms to the gravy just because I had some and I totally forgot. I was bummed....until I started eating the chops! It was amazing. I served it with mashed potatoes and the corn & asparagus steam fresh. I couldn't believe how quickly this meal came together. I'm looking forward to eating leftovers for lunch today!
This was a big hit with my whole family, with or without the gravy. I used Olive Oil to fry the pork chops instead of butter. And my chops were boneless and were 1/2" thick rather than 3/4". I had to substitute the marjoram with oregano since I did not have marjoram. This one will be used regularly.
Very good! Tasty and easy to make. Had no milk, so used water for the gravy and it was great.
NOTE: I made this recipe AS IS and that is what my rating is based on. Really flavorful and easy. The whole family loves it. I make it all the time. Stick to the boneless chops. I tried bone-in once and it takes longer to cook and just does not work well with the gravy. The herbs make the difference, especially the marjoram. No substitutions.
a great tip posted by GAFoodLover on 1-31-11 about NOT using a cooking spray with silicon in it in a good non-stick pan. Thank you! I can add another tip... mustard! Yes, try adding 1-2 tablespoonfuls of a good quality dijon mustard to the gravy as you heat it up for an added kick. I also like to sautee some onion and add that to the gravy. I also can attest to the value of planning ahead if you have the chance and using an overnight brine for the 3/4 inch pork chops. Amazing what a brine will do to pork chops.
My family loved this. It was quick, easy, and delicious. I used bone-in pork chops and it worked just fine. Made the gravy again a few nights later with a chicken dish....it was so easy I didn't even need to look at the recipe again when I made the gravy!
We liked this, but I felt like the gravy was a little too floury. Next time, we will try it with grilled pork chops and use less flour for the gravy. It is definitely on our "try again" list! I think that we possibly didn't use enough flour on the pork chops themselves and that worked against us. We did make this with these mashed potatoes: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/garlic-mashed-potatoes-50400000110534/
The herbed gravy made the dish. I made it with trimmed center cut boneless pork loin chops. I will make this again due to the ease, quickness and low-fat category.. I served it along with mashed potatoes and steamed corn. Everyone enjoyed it.
I used bone-in pork chops and added 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper to the flour. Absolutely fabulous. Raves from the family. Served along side garlic-mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Could easily sub hamburger patty for the chop for a chicken-fried steak flair. Definitely adding to our regular rotation.
Really good weeknight recipe. I made it even easier on myself by mixing the flour and milk in the blender. Everything came together really fast. I served with mashed potatoes and had plenty of leftovers for another meal.
I really liked this dish. It came together fairly quickly. The gravy was so each to make and very tasty. It seems like a heavy dish but is surprisingly low calorie! My family didn't think it was anything special but I will make it again.
A tasty and easy classic. I have successfully substituted chicken broth for the milk when needed.
WOW! I suck at making gravy and my husband and I LOVED this gravy! I only had pork chops with the bone and it still came out PERFECT!! So easy and fast, perfect for a weeknight but pretty enough for special occasions. I served this with Baby Yukon Gold Potatoes Jacques Pepin Style, Rachael Ray recipe. And Broccoli. No changes to the recipe were needed, just perfect!
Very quick and easy! A really good dish when you want comfort food--without the fat! Will definitely make again.
Moist, great taste, and very easy to make. My husband raved about this dish.
I made this last night for the first time, and it was delicious. I followed some reviewers' advice and added extra of the spices and salt, but I don't think it needed. It was a little too salty. Everyone raved about it,though, so I'm planning to make it again next week exactly as written. I served it with Creamy Mashed Cauliflower from another site (Google search it, you'll love it). Just like mashed potatoes, only without the added fat and carbs.
I made as written and found it to be almost flavorless. There was nothing savory about it. The pork chops were dry and the gravy was bland.
Absolutely the best pork recipe. My family loved it. Very easy & fast recipe to make. Can't wait to try with beef cubed steaks.
Great combination with a healthy touch!
Great tasting and quick dinner. Made this with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Didn't change the recipe at all and the chops were very moist and tender and tasty. The gravy was very delicious on both the chops and the mashed potatoes. This will be kept in my recipe file.
Sorry, I made this for dinner and really didn't like it. It was pretty much the gravy I didn't like. It must have been the marjoram, I don't know but I threw the recipe away. It was like the three herbs over seasoned the gravy.
An easy way to make a southern favorite. You can also substitute a beef cube steak for the pork and have "Chicken Fried Steak". I love My Recipes because I am on Weight Watchers Points Plus and can use the nutritional info to compute my points.
I was very surprised that we didn't like this recipe after seeing all the five star reviews. It was like something you would get from bob evans. I admit that I do prefer really strong flavors which this did not have. The pork chop itself had no flavor at all. This one just didn't do it for us.
Very tasty and fairly easy!
Good recipe and good ideas for reduced calories. I spotted one problem in preparation instructions - if you spray a good non-stick pan with a cooking spray, you may ruin the non-stick finish. Most cooking sprays use silicon, which does not react well to non-stick. A better approach is to put a few drops of cooking oil (preferably olive oil) in the pan and rub it around with a paper towel - or use an oil mister bottle instead of a pan-coating product - either one is way cheaper than cooking spray.
My family loves these chops and gravy. Really easy and the gravy always comes out smooth with a whisk. I recommend doing them in a cast iron skillet.
This recipe is awesome and super quick! I always serve with mashed potatoes and succatash and pour the gravy over everything.
This is a very easy recipe, but absolutely delicious, my husband and i enjoyed it with baked potatoes and sun-dried tomatoes
Absolutely delicious. I have been searching for a good country fried pork chop recipe. Made this last night and it is a hit. Even a "Yankee" can appreciate great southern cooking. Passing along to my daughter in North Carolina.
This is still one of my favorite pork chops and gravy recipes. Last night I served the gravy over Stove Top stuffing. Steamed, buttered carrots, sliced tomatoes with dollop of cottage cheese and supper was on. Great recipe. I would not hesitate serving to company.
DELICIOUS and so very easy to make - i followed the recipe to the letter and everything came out perfectly - i've never made gravy before but this was so easy! I served it with some homemade mashed potatoes for a truly 'comfort' meal. Will make this dish again.
Having been born and raised in the south, making "milk" gravy comes second nature to me. If you'd like the gravy to have a bit more flavor instead of mixing the milk and flour together make a "roux" which is simply stirring the flour into the pan and letting it brown slightly before adding the milk. Depending on the depth of the brown, the gravy will take on a deeper, richer flavor. Stir constantly, don't take your eyes off it or you could burn the roux and when it's the color you like, quickly wisk in the milk. Season to taste. Using a half evaporated milk and half water mix for the milk makes it even tastier. (Not sweetened condensed milk..evaporated milk).
My fiance grew up in the south so he often misses a good southern meal. He LOVED this (so did I). Whenever I cook pork on the stovetop it ends up dry, but with this recipe it was moist and flavorful. I wouldn't change a thing about the recipe. Served with mashed potatoes and green veggie.
Excellent! I used bone-in pork chops and it worked great. I also did 3/4 1% milk and 3/4 cup whole milk. Healthy(er) comfort food!
This dish is a part of our regular meal rotation. It is perfect when you need a little comfort on a weeknight. I prepare the recipe as it is written. The last time I made it, I mixed some heavy cream with 1% milk to make the gravy. This was a mistake. The gravy was just too thick. Using just 1% milk makes a nice textured gravy. Dinner can come together very quickly with this entree. Great with mashed potatoes and a green veggie of your choice.
I added this to my monthly menu a few months ago. This is so simple and tasty I even make it on a weeknight. This makes a ton of gravy,. Add some biscuits to this meal to mop up all that goodness.
This was really good!! Everyone really enjoyed this recipe. I served it with mashed potatoes and broccoli.
This recipe tastes so decadent and is so easy! It's just an amazing dish and it's perfect for everyday meals because it's quick and easy and it's great for company because it makes a nice presentation and nobody will know or care that it's light.
I loved this recipe it had spices I am not used to using together and they were good together. Thanks for a new idea to get my husband to eat pork chops once in a while!
This recipe was easy and the pork chop itself turned out great...however, the gravy was too heavy in the spices with the sage being completely overwhelming. Maybe I was a bit too heavy handed with it when I halved the recipe. Would make the chop again, but maybe change the gravy up a bit.
The country gravy is awesome. I made the recipe exactly as written. It is so easy, takes no time and very little cleanup. This may now be my favorite Cooking Light recipe of all time. My favorite used to be the Sundried Tomato Herb Meatloaf, but this may in fact be better ;o)
Fantatic! served with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. Comfort food.
This is a dependably delicious and easy recipe to prepare. Just follow the directions and enjoy! I served it with stuffing, fried apples, and mixed veggies.
My husband fell in love with these pork chops. The pork chops and gravy have an excellent flavor. I served this with mashed potatoes and peas. I highly recommend this recipe. It's quick and easy so you can make this during the week too.
Used thinner pork chops, and they came out excellent, but next time I will increase the amount of spices. The gravy was good, but bland. Here again, more spices in the flour mixture may help, along with pepper. I served with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. I will make it again, but with the above revisions.
I use this recipe on a regular basis. The pork chops are moist and tasty. I love that it's such an easy recipe. Mashed potatoes and a veggie round this out for a delicious meal.
This is our favorite pork chop recipe. It's quick, easy, and very comforting. I use skim milk with no problems, and serve it with mashed potatoes and either green beans or lima beans. It's not something I would choose for a special occassion, but it's a perfect weeknight dinner for the family.
I made this recipe a couple of years ago and just brought it back into the rotation...and I'm glad I did. I used thin-cut pork chops which really cut down on the cooking time and they were still moist. The gravy thickened up very quickly and was delicious - even using skim milk. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband took the leftovers to work and was still raving the next day. Comfort food at its best!
This recipe was absolutely delicious. Just wonderful. My husband raved. I think we were looking for some serious comfort food after being out in the snow and cold all day. The total prep time is actually well under 30 min, and I am not the fastest cook. This tasted like something my grandmother would have cooked - and it is very healthy once you throw in a veggie or two! Thanks Cooking Light!
This is definitely a good solid recipe. Tasted great and was easy to make. Served with mashed potatoes and carrots.
Always comes out great! This has become a family favorite. I always add a little more salt and serve with mashed potatoes.
No one in my family could believe this was from cooking light! It was so creamy and rich tasting! Not only was this delicious but it was also easy to make on a weeknight; paired with baked potatoes and steamed broccoli and dinner was on the table within thirty minutes. Will definitely make again!
I love this recipe! The combination of spices in the gravy is so good and comforting. I have also used the recipe for chicken breast and thickly-sliced ham (for ham, don't put salt in the flour mixture, because the ham is already salty, but do add salt to the gravy).
My pork chops were moist & tasty however I found the gravy to be quite bland...next time I would add more salt & pepper. Definitely does not taste "healthy"
I gave this recipe five stars because even though it is not fancy, it is very flavorful, quick to make and inexpensive. I used fat-free milk instead of 1% and cooked the gravy an extra minute or two to thicken. It was very good. I've made it twice now and even my picky four year old asked for more. Definitely part of regular rotation.
Pretty good. My husband and I liked it, but my 2 year old (who's normally a good eater) hated it. I think the gravy was too sage-y for her. I served it with mashed sweet potatoes and lima beans. We are having the left over gravy with biscuits and soy sausage for breakfast tomorrow.
We enjoyed the pork chops but the gravy was certainly different. I used lactaid milk and I don't know if that made a difference. Tasted like flour and was very thick. Might make again without the gravy.
Good recipe. Served with mashed potatoes and a combo of frozen corn and baby limas. A little time consuming for a weeknight, but still pretty good. Definitely did not seem light! Next time, I will serve with applesauce as well.
I found this recipe easy to make on a busy week night. A true comfort food. I loved it and so did my picky teens.
Two comments from family: "Yay!" upon observing there were left-overs, and "all right!" upon seeing there was also more gravy! S.O. made leftovers with eggs for breakfast next day, really great recipe!
Best I've ever had. Served with buttered noodles. Definitely put this one in my regular rotation. Outstanding!
This recipe was so simple and so delicious. This will definitely be in my regular rotation of weeknight meals.
I've made this twice, and gotten rave reviews from my family both times. I followed the directions exactly except that I increased the amount of salt and herbs for more flavor. It's hard to believe this is a light meal -- it tastes just like the high-fat gravy I used to make. I served it with rice (although mashed potatoes would have been good too) and broccoli for myself, peas for the rest of my family who won't eat broccoli, and homemade biscuits. Delish!
After inhaling the meat, my 4 year old said, "Try dipping the broccoli in the gravy!" That's a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one. We will definitely make this again.
This turned out great. The gravy dosn't taste low fat at all. I added more herbs and salt for a touch more flavor, though. I also used pork tenderloin because that's what I had on hand. I'll definitely make this again.
yum! wonderful and comforting for a cold, dreery day!
Very good! Have a family of 3, so invited neighbor over for dinner (walking by with her pup). She couldn't believe how simple to cook and amazingly good it was. We all licked our plates :) Used the leftover gravy over our mashed red potatoes too.... YUM! Made exactly as indicated on the recipe.
Great classic I grew up with in Oklahoma. It was easy to put together and I will make this again. Personally, I add more salt and pepper to the gravy, generally speaking, this is how it's made. Enjoy!
