Pork Chops with Roasted Apples and Onions
Pork chops and apples make a perfect pairing for a quick meal that feels like fall.
Pork chops and apples make a perfect pairing for a quick meal that feels like fall.
Made as recipe states. My hubby really enjoyed it as did I. Next time I will add more onoins and apples, and double the sauce. Overall very good.
Great recipe. Will make it again
What I did was use a pork gravy mix packet and used veggie stock and a dash of apple juice.
This came up as a meal option on the Cooking Light Diet Plan. I have only cooked pork chops a few times before but decided to try this anyway. It was very flavorful and my pork chops came out nice and tender. I used boneless instead of bone-in, otherwise followed as directed. Frozen pearl onions are hard to find in my area and I had to go to a few stores before I found them. Next time I will probably just sub regular onions cut into wedges as another review suggested. I will definately make this again!
As another reviewer suggested, I cooked the pork first, removed it and kept it warm. Delicious flavor and presentation with the apples, onions and thyme. I think the gravy proportions are off. I used 1 cup stock and 2 tsp flour. It thickened nicely and who doesn't want more gravy? Will add dried cherries for company.
I followed the recipe as stated. It tasted great! I did cut the recipe in 1/2 since there is only me and my wife. I used 1/2 of the Apple to get one cup but will use the full Apple next time. We will make this again and again!
I have not tried this but looks wonderful. I WISH THE PRINTED HAS THE PICTURE ALSO. Thank you !!!
Used your idea for the sauce - Wow - so much better. Didn't have any craisins - may add them next time. Thanks for the change - Kathi
GOYA makes a "ham" bouillon- comes as individual powder packs in a small box (like their chicken, and vegetable)
Went a bit beyond, added more onions and apples, and it was a hit with guests. It is a make again for family or a quick get together.
This is a great example of quick, simple comfort food, not something you usually say in the same sentence. It's so nice to have on hand recipes like this that don't require days of chopping or an arm's length ingredient list, yet are full of flavor. Sure, there are plenty of ways to jazz it up as others have suggested, but why make it more complicated than it needs to be. We didn't feel it necessary. Tastes great as is.
Quick and tasty, and came together with ingredients I typically have on hand. Was impressed with how well the simple sauce finished the meat. Served to my family with angel hair cabbage and steamed carrots.
This was yummy. We don't like pearl onions, so substituted some yellow onion wedges. Served with garlic mashed potatoes and oven roasted asparagus. Definitely more of a fall/winter dinner, but still very tasty. I can see how adding some cranberries or dried cherries could really add a lot to it. My only complaint was that the sauce seemed a bit like a waste of time as it didn't really get thick enough. Maybe some corn starch next time.
Great. My husband loved it and he is very picky. Thanks. This will be in the regular rotation.
Really really good. The only problem was with the order and timing of the recipe. After reading it several times and having my husband weigh in with his opinion, I switched up the cooking order. Why use 2 pans? Cooked the pork 1st and kept warm. Made the onion and apple mix in the same pan and then proceeded from there. Less clean up and a smoother cooking process.
We loved this recipe! I'm not usually fond of fruit mixed with meat, but this was just right. Very tasty!
Its a good recipe, i've made it twice before finding what worked best for us. My grandmother was actually the one who showed me the recipe, and wanted to follow it to the t the first time. The second go around, she was much happier with it. I substituted a small red onion, wedged, for the pearl onions, added some chopped garlic, and added 1/2 cup of craisins. Also, I dipped the porkchops in flour before browning them, and substituted vegetable broth for the chicken broth
Very good! I changed the sauce quite a bit though. After browning the chops, Sautéed garlic in hot pan, then added 1c apple cider, thyme, rosemary, salt, pepper, and 1 T flour and cooked about 5 min till reduced and thickened. Off heat added butter and vinegar. I too couldn't find pearl onions so I just used large chop sweet onion with the apples which worked great! Served with roasted fingerlings. My husband and I enjoyed this very much!
The apples and onions were excellent. Thyme and Apples; Magical! My boyfriend even asked me to make them again sometime. However, he asked why I put chicken gravy on the pork chops. I think it might have been better with vegetable broth. (Why don't they make pork broth?) Also, I had to sub regular pearl onions and peel them myself. 5 major chain stores and none of them carry frozen pearl onions. Still a quick recipe.
Easy and delicious! Even my picky husband ate it. Altho he did ask why I was assaulting his taste buds...
This was great. The sauce was delicious. I was surprised how good this was. I used center cut port chops.
Onions, apples & thyme were the best of the plate -- which looked a lot like the cover photo. Subbed sirloin-cut chops for center-cut, because they were on sale. Added the accumulated meat juices from the resting chops to the broth/sauce. OK weeknight supper.
Delicious meal - and relatively easy, too! Paula made this after getting up from her afternoon nap before she headed off to work. It did not take very long and was worth it in every way!
excellent, easy recipe. The whole family loved it. I agree with the person who used dried thyme - I did as well and I won't do that again. The recipe needs fresh thyme.
This was good, and it did not take long at all! I didn't have fresh thyme, so I used dried, If/When I make this again I will for sure get fresh!
I made this tonight, and while it wasn't bad, I just didn't think it was great. I've had better pork chops and apple recipes before. I felt it didn't have enough of something in it - it just missed. I'll look for a better recipe in the future.
Excellent recipe! Wonderful blending of tastes with the onions and apples. I will definitely make this again.
There was nothing wrong with this, but nothing special about it either...my husband and I just didn't love it. I have two friends who made this and said they did love it, though.
I am not that much of a pork fan, mostly because whenever I've cooked it, it turned out dry and chewy. After seeing this on the August cover, I decided to try and conquer my fear of cooking pork. It was worth it! The best part of the recipe were the roasted apples, which provided a bright balance to the meat. I swapped Gala for Granny Smith, though, I like a tart apple. The sauce was simple to make and was delicious. Although, this was just an ordinary Tuesday dinner, this recipe would be great for special occasions!
Made this last night, and it is excellent! Couldn't find Haricots Verts at the local small town grocery, so I used frozen green beans and tossed into the mustard vinaigrette. Used dry thyme and I sliced pork tender loin I had into chops. My wife and I will have this again, and it was pretty easy to make!
I loved this dish and more to the point, my husband loved it. The flavor from the seasonings and then the touch of cider vinegar makes it oh, so very delicious. I would definitely recommend.
This was really outstanding! Superb sweet/sour flavor combination. I used fresh pearl onions & boneless pork cutlets.
A delicious fall recipe with easy to use ingredients. I used a boneless chop just because that is my preference. It was easy to cook and very tasty.
I am a tough critic and loved this recipe. Only adaptation is I doubled the gravy. The haricots verts with mustard vinaigrette were also excellent.
Loved this recipe. It was easy, didn't require a lot of ingredients and was satisfying. This will be placed in my favorites. I didn't have pork chops with bone so I used a center cut boneless chop cut in half.
This was delicious and easy to make. Followed the recipe except I added a little brown suger to the apples and onions and sprinkled a little more over the assembled pork chops, sauce, and apples. I also used whipped butter, which I love and think it adds a nice depth to the flavor of any dish. Next time I would like to try with peaches instead of apples.
My fiance and I really enjoyed this recipe. I wasn't sure if I would like the apples and onions but they worked together really well.
Made this for dinner last night and it was delicious!!!! I agree with tookey75, the gravy brings it all together. Would not hesitate to serve to company, it's that good!!
The onions were great, but the apples were only so so. The gravy didn't impress me either (maybe I didn't make it right), which is why I rated it a 3 instead of 4. However, the pork, onions & haricots vert were very good, so next time I'll just make those without the gravy or apples.
I've never been a fan of combining fruit with meats (it just never sounded/tasted right to me), so I was a little wary when my husband wanted to make this recipe. However, it's now been saved to my favorites and we will revisit it at least once a month I believe. AMAZING! The gravy mixture brings it all together and makes it irresistible.
