Hasselback Apples

Ellen, That Arkansas Black apple sounds very interesting! Do you know of any growers that might ship out of state? I'm always on the search for different varieties as my husband is oddly allergic to Honeycrisp apples, and Pink Lady is difficult to find.
I'm enthralled with this recipe but would feel terrible to make it when my hubby couldn't enjoy it too.
Thanks!
Thanks to the reader who suggested putting wooden chopsticks (I used wooden skewers) on either side of the apple to prevent cutting the whole way through and to insure even cuts. Great idea! This was mighty good, like an apple pie with fewer calories, and it looks wonderful on the plate. No vanilla ice cream in the house, so we subbed whipped topping, which was good but ice cream would have been better. Used a local apple called "Arkansas Black" which worked beautifully here
I could've eaten 2 servings and still want more - so yummy hot out of the oven with the vanilla ice cream. Will definitely make again and these would be great to serve for a dinner party dessert.
To help make sure you don't cut all the way through the apple when cutting your hasselback slices, place wooden chopsticks on each side of the halved apples. That way your knife will hit the chopsticks when cutting and your slices will be exactly the same depth with each cut.
This was super simple (it took me 10-15 minutes hands on time - that is WAY quicker than most desserts I make!) I couldn't be more pleased with the dish - it's like a little personal apple pie (but better!)
I made these for my husband and he loved them. Found them easy to make but they make a big presentation.
I thought this was a great little fall dessert. A little time consuming for the end product, but I didn't mind it. The apple cooks perfectly and the Hasselback was fun to do. It hit the spot without making me feel like I'd eaten a sugar bomb afterwards. I recommend it!
Delicious and super-easy--we've already made them twice this week!
