Dunkin' and Frank's RedHot Teamed Up to Create a Spicy Jelly Doughnut
Frank’s RedHot is a popular condiment which has occasionally used the phrase “I put that sh-- on everything” as a marketing slogan. Though this particular hot sauce is incredibly versatile, a new, unexpected, and super-rare collaboration seems set to truly test the limits of that phrase.
That’s because Frank’s Red Hot just teamed up with Dunkin’ to create what I can only imagine is one of the world’s first spicy doughnuts. As revealed on a Super Bowl livestream yesterday, the Frank’s Red Hot Jelly Donut sounds like a mix of sweet, salty, and spicy that will certainly provoke some strong reactions. Given that it was initially introduced as something the stream’s host was dared to eat, I don’t expect all of those reactions to be positive.
Though it might seem like a hastily-made decision, it would appear that a lot of careful thought and experimentation went into the spicy doughnut-making process. Rick Golden, the Manager of Donut Excellence for Dunkin’ (what a job) says in a press release that his team tried out at least a dozen different doughnut combinations (including Munchkins) before finally figuring out the best way to incorporate hot sauce. The end result is an apple and raspberry jelly-filled yeast doughnut adorned with white icing and Frank’s RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce.
If you want to give that doughnut a try, though, it may already be too late. There are only two Dunkin’ locations in the Miami area (home of yesterday’s Super Bowl) that’ll have the doughnut on hand. You’ll find it at the Dunkin’ in the Miami International Airport, as well as the one at 817 SE 17th St in Fort Lauderdale. They literally only have it for today while supplies last, however. So stop reading this right now and go pick one up if you’re in the area.
Let this be a lesson that anything—including a spicy doughnut—is possible. At this point, I just hope Dunkin’ spends the rest of 2020 getting really weird with it.
