It's easy to make and create your own substitutions.
Good basic meatloaf recipe but we don't eat veal due to the cruel treatment of the calves. Used ground beef and pork and went with Italian bread crumbs.
This was great! I used 1/2 beef and 1/2 turkey breast instead of pork and veal. It was moist and flavor full. My husband loved it. Will make again.
This is the first time I've made meat loaf, and it came out perfect! I didn't find veal, so I just used ground beef and pork. I'll definitely make this one again!
I tried this meat loaf, it's very easy to make and so delicious. I did on the side a steam vegetables salad, as green beans, broccoli, corn, cheek peas, with balsamic vinegar, fresh little slice cilantro, 4 garlic cloves crushed "no oil for sure as my diet" with sea salt, black paper. Yummy! It was really testy and good healthy meal. I love it.
First made this 12/7/08. Use 1# each ground turkey breast and turkey, 3/4 cup dry breadcrumbs. Added finely chopped veggies (carrots, peppers, zucchini, etc) and a couple dashes of cayenne. This freezes very well. Tonight it's being served with Italian green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. Have enjoyed it with cornbread and cole slaw and other combos. It's just good food.
My husband hates meatloaf but loved this one...he said I could make this one again anytime!
This recipe is good. I used italian breadcrumbs instead of white bread. I also used all ground beef. I'm not sure if I would make this again, though.
I've tried this recipe and it was very easy and tasty. I did play around with the ingrediants at times...but did not find any signs of diarrhea..must of been all the BS from AJBaker. I'm glad it never made it into my recipe.
Veal means horribly treated calves who are force fed a liquid diet in crated where they cannot turn around so they cannot exercise, and are fattened up to the point where they are uncomfortable with constant diarrhea until they are slaughtered for this "tender" meat. NEVER use this meat from tortured calves!
Very good and easy to prepare. Another CL recipe worth considering is mini meat loaves. Very good and easy to prepare as well.
Wonderful CLASSIC recipe! You can't go wrong! My family Loves it!
i really love this dish, i ve made so many times each time i love it even more than before .. worth a try !!:)
i loved this dish i would def make it again.this is more of an everyday meal recipe.very simple and easygreat flavor!!i loved the idea of a broiler pan so all the fat drips off.my only problem is it took 2 hours to cook i think i might have made it to thick so make sure its not to thick or it will take forever to cook.
This is a delicious recipe which I made for the first time a few weeks ago. I only used extra lean ground beef rather than mixing veal and pork and it was yummy nonetheless. We're also mushroom lovers so I sauteed some sliced mushrooms in with the onion. I, too, needed two slices of bread to equal the amount required. We only eat whole wheat bread and that worked fine. Highly recommended - I'm making it again tonight!
With the following changes... my fiance & I give this recipe 5 stars! I used 1 lb of lean ground beef; 1 lb of ground veal; 1/3 cup of chopped up bacon. I added 1 tbsp. of paprika. I used 2% milk and not skim. I used crushed crackers and not bread crumbs: 1 cup Ritz & 1/2 cup Cheese-Its. I omitted the salt, because the crackers have salt on them. I used a lot of ketchup on the top of the loaf. I reapplied the ketchup on the loaf half way through the cooking. I also added 1/3 cup of chopped up brown mushrooms and 1/3 cup chopped up green peppers. If you have kids I'm sure they would love to mix all of the ingredients together... it'll turn out better if you use your hands! This is really yummy! We served it with cheddar mashed potatoes, so tasty! Happy Cooking!
I used all of the ingredients except for the meat. Instead, I used a pound of ground turkey and a pound of ground chuck. It was delicious. I adjusted the ingredients just a tad to make up for the added meat (by ounces).
Coming from someone who never thought I'd want to make meatloaf, this is so good!! It has tons of flavor with the onion and the dried basil. I use only 93% lean ground beef (no pork or veal) and follow directions exactly. I have made it probably 5 times. I enjoy it as a change from the usuals. I serve it with oven fries. LOVE it!! I agree that the 1 slice of bread does not measure the amount is says. I usually have to use two.
This dish is great.
