Rinaldo's was probably the problem. That's the worst brand of sauce I've ever used.
This recipe is great. We introduced this dish to some neighbor children who loved it.
Fixed this last night and hubby and I enjoyed it. I thought it was a little too hot for me so will reduce the red pepper next time. I like more sauce so will use the whole jar of pasta sauce next time. Easy and very tasty. Served over pasta. A definite repeat.
This was good but I agree with others...just a tad bland, nothing a little salt didn't fix up a bit though. I used CLs slow cooker marinara sauce and I left out the Basil in the end but I don't think this would have made much of a difference. I served this over pasta.
Excellent and so easy! Served over left over egg noodles. Definitely adding this to our regular rotation. Great comfort food.
Easy fun and delicious.
This is delicious! Very easy to prepare and just the right amount of spice. Will be making again, soon!!
Contrary to a few bland reviews, I thought with oregano and basil, that there's no way that this would be bland; I stand corrected. Maybe a little more salt and some garlic would help.
This is so delicious! We added some grape tomatoes just for additional vegetables and it was really good. You could pretty much use any vegetable that sounds good. I use the basic marinara sauce recipe from Cooking Light as my sauce. I would make this for any occasion!
Family really loved this recipe. My husband suggested making it with shrimp - so we're trying that next time. This was simple, and came together quickly. We served over linguine with a green salad.
Fun and easy to make and the taste was simply delicious. I did not have the red wine, but substituted a little vinegar. The burst of flavor in this dish completely surprised me and my family. I Will definitely make this recipe again.
This recipe produced was the most, bland, flavorless dish I've ever made with MyRecipes. It definitely needs something, The recipe calls for simmering it covered, however all the moisture released from the mushrooms made for a very thin sauce. I would simmer it uncovered. I used Rinaldo's Tomato and Basil Sauce - maybe this was the problem? I had to serve it over rice because we had a gluten intolerant friend over. Still, I surprised at the lack of flavor. Won't make this again.
One of the reviewers mentioned that it 'lacked something'. I suggest that the missing ingredient is garlic. How on earth does one think this dish would be good without that basic flavor? I also made a good tomato sauce instead of the store-bought one recommended, but that's a personal preference. I'm sure there are lots of people who think purchased jars of Italian sauce are all there is. Another recommended change - use boneless chicken thighs instead of breast meat for better taste and a more tender outcome.
I did not have red wine. So, I substituted 1/4 cup chicken broth. It made the sauce a little to soupy, but it still tasted great. The toddlers even ate the chicken and liked it.
We love this recipe!
I made this the other day and it was just delicious. This is a sure keeper. Judy K
Very good. And even better for lunch the next day. No modifications.
This is an easy recipe that is good for everyday meals or special occasions. The only thing I changed was to add garlic and onion. I also would suggest seasoning the chicken with salt as it browns; otherwise, the chicken's full flavor isn't brought out. But this is a matter of personal taste, so I still think the recipe is great!
Really yummy and very easy to make. Family loved this.
This was a nice, quick and easy dinner. The only thing i didn't like for this recipe was that it could of done with a lot more seasoning. I added some habenero sauce to give it some taste when i was eatting it to spice it up.
This was very good, my husband and kids loved it and it was easy. I cut up the veggies earlier in the day and just threw it all together. I served it with bow tie pasta.
Consider this recipe for leftover TURKEY! This is almost identical to what we used to do with the exception that I used a whole bottle of the tomato-basil sauce and served over spaghetti. We looked forward to this as much as the turkey dinner. Better than turkey pot pie or croquettes. If you like tomato-based spaghetti sauce, you will love this.
This was a good, solid recipe. I did make a few changes: added some sauteed onion and garlic and used thyme instead of red pepper because one of the eaters is very sensitive to spicy, hot, foods. I made this for guests, so it was shared between 4 adults and one toddler who all ate well. And still we had a TON of leftovers (which in my book, is great). I would say this serves way more than 4 people once it's mixed with some pasta- maybe 6-8. Would definitely make again. Perfect for a quick, casual meal with friends.
Up front I sauteyed using a combo of olive oil and canola oil, and added chopped jalapeno to the mix.I did not have crimini mushrooms so canned were substituted. Later I added garlic powder, olive oil, paprika, garlic salt, cayenne pepper, cinnamon and a packet of sweet and low to punch up the flavor in a layered manner, and to cut the acidity of the pasta sauce and wine. Delicious! (Taste often when adding various spices). I served it over white rice and will try an onion/garlic pasta sauce next time. Good dish for any occasion!
We really enjoyed this recipe. It was pretty simple and easy for a weeknight. I did, however, add a white onion with the green pepper and use one and a half times the dried spices to punch up the flavor. We will definitely make this again!
No fresh basil around, so I added a chopped onion and 4 cloves of garlic to punch up the flavor. For the sauce, I thawed out some Marinara Magnifica. (CL recipe). Served over pasta, with a green salad. If I make it again, I will tweak the spices some more. We liked it, but it needs something.
Substituted Prego-what was in the cupboard. Still excellent. Easy to increase a bit to make for kids that keep coming home to eat. Served over Wheat pasta to keep within points for Weight Watchers.
I have lived 30 years in Italy - enough said!!I don't know why I bother with American menues.
My family liked this recipe. I will be making it again. It has lots of flavor and is easy to throw together. To: Patricia Skelding (reviewer below) - This site is for "light", lower calorie dishes, so if you are looking for authentic Italian dishes, this is not the place to be.
This was really good, and tasted like it had simmered for hours. Pretty much followed the recipe exactly. You'll need a really big skillet, I used a cast iron dutch oven.
This was great! Followed the recipe exactly except we used whole wheat angel hair for the pasta. Hubby and I both liked it and we'll be making this again in the future.
This was very good. I used fresh herbs and served it over brown rice. My husband said it is one of his favorite dishes and wants me to make once or twice a month. Great with a side salad or any other veggie side.
Awesome! My husband and his friends love it!
Great recipe. Easy; lots of flavor. My husband and I do not care for mushrooms, so I quartered 2 small onions and cooked them with the green pepper. Will definitely make again.
Great! Didn't take too much time but flavors were great. It is spicy but not too hot. Family wants it again.
For flavor 5 stars. Really, really good for special weeknight dinner and quick/easy! Savory with just the right kick. Used roasted red peppers for fresh, but otherwise followed recipe. Hubby thought I'd been in the kitchen all afternoon! Don't tell...
This was very good! It came together quickly and still had a lot of flavor. I would definitely make this again!
Really good--easy! I served it over whole-wheat spaghetti--I think it would be better over penne or fusilli, something that would catch the sauce a little better. Used fresh oregano and fresh basil, and replaced the cheese with grated parmesan. Used regular fresh mushrooms instead of cremini. Yum!
