Where did my review go??
I made them for a birthday party and they went fast and the recipe was requested. I admit I used regular sharp cheddar and pork. I also served it with a Honey Mustard Sauce with a added splash of Bourbon to the mustard. Will definitely make again.
I only made half of a batch after reading some of the reviews and not knowing if anyone would eat them. I made them per directions. They went so fast I didn't even get to try them. I've been asked to make them again ASAP!
Well I used jimmy dean's hot sausage and I had smoked gruyere cheese on hand. It turned out really good. My grand daughter loved them. Yum
So bland. I had such high hopes for this. Read previous review on the bland result of the recipe. So I liberally added salt, onion powder, and garlic powder to the cooked quinoa before chilling. Did not have low fat cheddar, so used full-fat sharp cheddar I had on hand. Also, had to use regular Jimmie Dean's pork sausage as store was out of reduced fat version. Still, even with all that alteration, the results were just plain bland. Husband's reaction after eating just one, "Hmm. They're okay." When he makes that comment on a dish, it always means he will not eat more of it. If you do make these, be sure to keep warm in a small crock pot or on a hot plate, as the sausage balls become really unpalatable when cooled. Threw them out . Not worth the cost of ingredients or my time. Give me the old Bisquick recipe any day, and just eat one or two. Or three! If I were to make it again, I might use Jimmie Dean's Pork Hot Sausage to see if the flavor improves.
Tried these the day I got my issue for my bookclub and they were a huge hit. The recipe is so easy that my 7 year old basically made them. We accidentally used 1 cup of quinoa cooked instead of 1 cup of cooked quinoa and I added a little more cheese to make up for it. At first they were a little bland but I sprinkled some parmesan over the top prior to putting them in the crockpot to keep warm and that helped alot. Next time I may put a little shaved asiago in them.
