I don’t eat mayo, so I skipped the sauce. Relish was fantastic. I only had red onions in the house, so that’s what I used. I mixed in some shredded cheddar and a thing of Onion soup mix when forming the patties. So yummy!
Onion mixture was very good, less excited about the sauce. Beef needed more seasoning.
the relish for the burger is wonderful. I could eat that and the patty with nothing else but a salad greens
These reminded me of a patty-melt, though not so greasy. I cooked mine in my cast-iron skillet 3 minutes per side and they were succulent! Good recipe! I did put a little side of ketchup on my plate, too, because I gotta have the ketchup with the burger, and I used light whole-grain hamburger buns. Other than that, I followed the recipe to the letter. Very tasty and satisfying dinner. I served it with a side of slaw, and a glass of red wine!
These burgers were delicious, full of flavor. This is the now the go to hamburger recipe for our house. I had to cook my burger about 1 minute longer per side to get to medium rare.
This is one of my favorite burger recipes from CL. Love the flavors, and they are very quick and easy.
We enjoyed the horseradish spread and onion topping, but found the burgers themselves a bit plain. We plan to try again, and use Montreal steak seasoning on the burgers.
These were the best hamburgers I ever made! I believe that the short handling time and the salt prior to cooking must be the reason. I loved the sauce, too. I put mine on the grill instead of the skillet and they were so yummy. I have made these several times, sometimes without the onions, and they always turn out great.
A fabulous recipe! Loved the horseradish sauce and grilled onions with applewood smoked bacon. Very decadent. Suggestions for making it 2nd time around: add extra horseradish and ketchup to sauce, add 1-2 slices extra bacon (can never have enough bacon!), and season the meat. You could even try doing half ground meat, half ground pork for another layer of flavor! Serve with baked sweet potato fries. Enjoy :)
I used 5% fat content hamburger and cooked these burgers on the grill. Packing the burgers loosely, salting them lightly, and placing them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before cooking them is the key. These burgers were juicy in spite of using a low-fat content hamburger and are the best burgers I have ever made! Delicious!!
I must just not be a fan of burgers cooked indoors! I thought it was just OK, although onion topping was really good. If it was cooked on the grill I bet it would have been fantastic.
WOW! One of the best burgers/recipes ever! We used King Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and it really evened out the flavors. Very easy weeknight meal.
This one just came in first on my list as far as burgers go. The bacon-onion relish is out of this world as is the spread. I love the tender texture of the burgers. I used a grill pan b/c I don't have a cast iron one and they came out great. Would definitely serve this one to guests just maybe not for a formal occasion. I served with roasted corn-on-the-cob.
We've done several CL burgers this summer, some pretty good, but this was voted absolutely the best so far. Truly excellent, for our tastes. Cooked the bacon & onions a day ahead, then reheated and added the chives & worcestershire. Formed the patties in the morning to chill all day. The spread came together super-fast. Served on poppy-seed rolls. Each layer of flavor was distinct yet worked wonderfully together. Strong recommendation for this burger.
Nice hamburger and loved the grilled onions. Did not have horseradish, but the sauce still worked well. Served with the beet and arugula salad in the same issue. Solid recipe, but not something I would serve guests.
Excellent burger!! The sauce and relish were out of this world!! The only change I made was to grill the bugers outside as I don't have a cast iron pan. My husband said this is now his favorite way to have a burger!!
This is hands-down the best homemade burger I've ever tasted. I couldn't believe how simple it was to prepare the burgers. They would have been great without the sauce and relish, but the whole package was totally fabulous. This is now my go-to recipe for hamburgers. In fact, next time I will make a double batch of the relish and use it to flavor fried potatoes!
