I made this for the first time last night for a good friend's birthday get together. She is a blue cheese lover. It was a huge hit and everyone wanted the recipe. I did make a few changes based on some of the reviews. I added an additional garlic clove, a shallot, 2 additional slices of bacon and 2 more ounces of blue cheese. It was perfect and a non blue cheese eater at the party loved it. My friend made me promise to always bring this dish to our parties.
I've made this delicious, easy dip several times and I get rave reviews. I personally think it's one of the best cheese spreads out there. With a nice bold red wine - absolutely terrific !
I made this in my mini-crockpot to take to a party. I thought it was delicious, great combination of flavors.
This is a must have at my Christmas party. Everyone always asks for the recipe....my go to dip!
Tastes like a cheese ball. Would not make again.
- Must add more bacon: total 9-10 - works just as well with reduced fat cream cheese - excellent served with grapes - easily made ahead of time - used pecans & walnuts. - the guys loved it
I made this on Valentines for my hubby and I. Very good recipe. You'd hardly know there was bacon in it as all the flavors really melded together. I don't think the blue cheese overpowered the dip. It never did 'bubble' in the oven so I took it out after 20 minutes when it was starting to brown. As someone else mentioned, I think it would be great with fruit & veggies. I served with wafer crackers and it immediately made them soft, went better with crisper crackers.
Definitely needs to be served with grapes, apples and veggies. I thought it was too heavy with crackers and breads. I Loved it with grapes and celery. Everyone loved this dip and they all took home the recipe. This was super easy to make and had enough uniqueness for me to take from party to party w/o slaving in the kitchen all day. I made it the night before, for a practice run and then used the leftovers to stuff mushrooms with. I also used gorgonzola and mine turned out great. I love this recipe!!
I like blue cheese, but it was WAY too overpowering in the dip. I followed the recipe exactly and used a 4oz container of Harris Teeter blue cheese and I couldn't taste the garlic, bacon or chives. This would be better with half of the blue cheese I think.
This recipe got rave reviews when I served it at a game night for 12 ladies. I made it in a 1 qt. dish and it took a bit longer to bake; but easy to make and delicious. I served it with bagel chips.
Unless you're having a large party, half the recipe is adequate as well as one baking dish. The recipe is quite easy, I made the base and toasted the walnuts the night before and slipped in the oven right before the party. Quite easy and rave reviews at the party. I don't think it's necessary to mince the garlic it could be a bit larger as it cooks quite quickly and becomes next to nothing when minced.
Took this to a Christmas party and everyone who tried it, liked it. I did do as someone else suggested and changed the walnuts to almonds. It was yummy!
This appetizer was an immediate hit at Christmas. I made it again for New Year's eve.
I made this for Christmas--substituting goat cheese for blue cheese and pecans for walnuts. It was extremely tasty with pita chips and crackers. It was good cold/room temperature, but even better fresh from the oven (and even warmed back up in the microwave later). I would make this again. It would be a nice appetizer to take to a party. You could even mix it up ahead of time and store in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake and serve it.
Excellent dip...everyone loved it. I like it too because you can make ahead of time and bake when ready to serve. The only thing I changed was not using the walnuts. Definitely will add to my collection of recipes.
YUM YUM YUM! Outstanding dip! Made exactly as recipe called for. Reheated well the next day too. This one is a keeper.
We really liked this dip and will definitely make again. We served this with crackers and dried apricots. The only substitution we made was almonds for the nuts in the recipe. I think next time I might add more bacon, but otherwise it was perfect!
Wonderful flavor. Added two extra pieces of bacon as suggested. Even though it's really good the way it is, I think it would also be good with the addition of a little liquid smoke, so next time I will give it a try. Best warm and reheats well. Nice addition to the appetizer table and will make again.
Exceptional! There are alot of Dips out there and this one is totally different and sooo good! So easy to make. I made with Gorgonzola because I like a stronger flavor and it was great. Everyone raved. Will definitely make again.
Excellent!! This is even excellent for people who don't like bleu cheese. My kids loved it!
